Hungarian adverbs of manner for B2–C1 learners
Hungarian builds many manner adverbs by adding an ending to an adjective: -an or -en (finoman ‘delicately’, kényelmesen ‘leisurely’, vidáman ‘cheerfully’) and -ul or -ül (makacsul ‘stubbornly’, kegyetlenül ‘cruelly’). This B2–C1 English–Hungarian deck gathers 35 of them, plus a few set phrases such as szó nélkül (‘wordlessly’) and az ég felé (‘skyward’).
One Hungarian word, elképesztően, translates two different English cards, unimaginably and unthinkably, so a short hint tells them apart. The first five cards (delicately, leisurely, fantastically, outwardly, uncomfortably) can be tried without registering.
