Conjunctions and linking words in Hungarian
Hungarian joins its sentences with short, frequent words: és is and, de is but, vagy is or, and mert is because. This A0–B2 English–Hungarian deck also covers the more advanced links such as hacsak nem (unless), míg (whereas), mintha (as if) and annak ellenére, hogy (even though).
Hungarian always puts a comma before hogy, which often works like the English that, and azért, hogy shows purpose, much as so that does. Spin the first five cards (and, that, but, or, so) without registering and you will hear the most common links first.
