Determiner – A0–B1

This deck brings together English determiners — the small words that go before a noun to say whose it is, how much or many there is, or which one you mean. At A0-B1 level, you'll learn articles (a, an, the), possessives (my, your, their), and quantity words (some, any, much, many, several, few). Among the 39 words are finer distinctions, like much versus many or few versus little, that Hungarian speakers often find tricky. This deck is for anyone who wants to build more precise, natural-sounding sentences in English.

Hungarian determiners: the small words before nouns

Hungarian has a definite article that changes with the next sound: a before a consonant (a ház) and az before a vowel (az alma), much as English swaps a and an. This A0–B1 English–Hungarian deck covers the small words before nouns: egy (a, an), ez (this), ezek (these), azok (those), a mi (our), minden (every), néhány (some), elég (enough).

Hungarian usually marks possession with a suffix on the noun, so a full pronoun such as az én házam (my house) adds emphasis. You can flip the first five cards (the, a, this, my, an) without registering and listen to how a, az and egy sound.

Who it’s for

  • English speakers learning Hungarian who want the small grammar words first.
  • Learners who mix up ez, ezek and azok.
  • Teachers planning a lesson on articles and pointing words.

What it’s good for

  • Articles: a, az, egy.
  • Pointing: ez, ezek, azok.
  • Quantity: néhány, sok, elég, minden, kevésbé.
